Sanitation and Hygiene Promotion
Problem
The level of environmental sanitation and personal hygiene in Gambella Regional is extremely low.
Water-borne and water-related diseases are at the top in the region. The majority of health cases are bloody/ watery diarrhea and intestinal diseases.
Diseases related to poor/inadequate water supply, hygiene, and sanitation problem in rural areas is estimated to cause 80-85 % of total mortality.
Limitation of awareness and poor sanitation around the water scheme.
Goal
To promote and improve basic environmental sanitation and personal hygiene by creating community awareness and orients them to have a waste disposal system in the target woredas.
Strategy
Mobilize the community to engage in environmental sanitation and personal hygiene and encourage them to have a pit latrine.
Prepares and implement projects that improve sanitation and personal hygiene.

Objectives
Mobile community to construct 1500 pit latrines and solid waste disposal, in the target Woredas, to improve sanitation and personal hygiene.
Advocate sanitation facilities in the Woredas and Regional Level for 200 people.
